Quinta da Pedra Alta, Vintage Port 2020

Quinta da Pedra Alta is a family-run estate in Portugal’s Douro Valley, based above the Pinhão River on steep, schist-rich vineyards. With a history rooted in traditional port production and table wine, they farm varied old-vine plots and employ classic Douro methods, granite lagares, wild-yeast ferments and careful ageing, to craft expressive fortified wines with regional character and depth. The 2020 Vintage Port is deeply garnet-purple with intense concentration. On the nose: blackcurrant, blackberry compote, plum and damson, framed by crushed violet, cedar spice and dark chocolate notes. The palate is full and velvety with a lush core of dark fruit, black cherry, Licorice and toasted oak, supported by refined tannins and balanced acidity. A long, layered finish shows mocha, sweet spice and a trace of graphite minerality; structured yet generous. Best enjoyed now with time or cellared for rewarding complexity.
